Many clients come to our studio with a request to optimize the costs of an advertising campaign in Google Ads. One of these ways is to exclude ineffective ad display regions.
Particular difficulties arise in the exclusion of the Crimea region for advertisers from Ukraine, which cannot be selected as an exclusive location in the advertising office.
Possible options that partially solve the problem:
- inclusion in the list of minus words of the names of settlements located in the Crimea;
- exclusion of the display area for a given radius;
- exclusion of impressions for certain IP addresses.
These options only partially solve the problem and the impressions will still pass, which leads to additional. campaign costs.
The only way that 100% solves the problem of excluding the Crimea region from the impressions of advertising campaigns for advertisers from Ukraine is to add separate regions to the impressions. Those. in the regions of display, you need to select not all of Ukraine, but each region separately and add it to the target locations. This is an official recommendation from Google support specialists.

Donetsk region (we recommend to exclude the entire region, and add individual large cities Bakhmut, Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Slavyansk, Mariupol to the target ones)
Luhansk region (we recommend excluding the entire region, and adding individual large cities of Severodonetsk, Lisichansk to the target ones)
